Ibero-American Conference Raises Funds for Cuba Outreach
The country of Cuba was represented at the recent Ibero-American Missions conference in Panama City, Panama.
Sixteen nations were represented at the recent ninth Ibero-American Missions Conference, October 13-16. Argentina, Brazil, El Salvador, Peru, and Puerto Rico where also among the countries represented. Cuba was represented for the first time, and a spontaneous offering of more than $1,400 was received to use for missions outreach in the country.
Dr. H.C. Wilson, Global Partners' general director, preached the opening message of the historic conference, which saw the launch of the Ibero-American Wesleyan Fellowship. The purpose of the conference was to bring together Latinos in the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking world to take seriously the Great Commission. The emphasis of the conference was on trans-cultural missions and missions awareness, fund-raising, recruiting, training, and mobilizing Latino missionaries in other nations. Currently, the board for the Ibero-American and Caribbean Missions Movement is responsible for Wesleyan ministry outside the continent in Spain (eight congregations) and two countries in Africa (Mali in the 10/40 Window with two congregations and Equatorial Guinea with fourteen).
Orlando, a missionary from Nicaragua working in Mali, Africa, challenged young Latinos to dedicate their lives to serve Christ. Several responded by making a public commitment. The Wesleyan missions movement among Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries is planning an exploratory trip to Cuba in 2010. Plans are also under consideration to begin ministry in the country of Uruguay.

Pray for the initiatives of the Ibero-America Wesleyan Church in their area, as well the transcultural outreach to Spain, and the African countries of Mali and Equatorial Guinea. The X Ibero-America Missions Conference is planned for Medellín, Colombia, in 2011.
